Les Escales Improbables

On the Quays of the Old Port of Montreal, September 11 to 13, 2009

The festival Les Escales Improbables docks at our shores for a 6th edition. The festival Les Escales Improbables brings us on a journey between two poles, from the industrial world to the traditions of our ancestors, like the yin and yang of our condition as urbanites of the 21st century.

“One should always be a little improbable.” Oscar Wilde

The principle behind Les Escales Improbables is simple. You stroll down the Quays of the Old Port at your own rhythm and… you run into world renowned artists from here and abroad. These confirmed or emerging creators represent a broad spectrum of artistic disciplines. Their performances may sometimes be disconcerting, but are always moving. Stay on course:

  • An aerosol graphic artist in action (Omen)
  • A metal sculptor creating live for 3 days (Glen LeMesurier)
  • A strange shoe store that reveals… a revealing Montreal! (2boys.tv)
  • Storytelling cushions with a dimension of fantasy (Trasphalt T.P.)
  • Dancers on a car (human playground)
  • Alarm clocks and boxes that play music (Ekumen collective)
  • An atypical excursion of the Old Port landscape (Grand Magasin)
  • Musical car mufflers (mineminemine)

You must stay the course right up to Les Siestes Musicales, and listen–heart open and eyes closed–to the following performers:

  • The Forestare guitar ensemble
  • The group The National Parcs
  • The music of Lo Griyo from Réunion Island
  • The electronic musical performances of Olivier Girouard of the Ekumen collective
  • The poems of Boris Vian by de Saval
  • Intersecting steel and nature

One of the flagship moments of this edition will be without a doubt the evening event Sortie de Sentiers, to be held on September 12 at Shed 16, on the Quays of the Old Port of Montreal. An evening where art makes its way between what remains of the bark on which to write strong and gentle words, and the steel beams of the mute structure that is SHED 16. An improbable link and location… except for Les Escales Improbables. Les Escales invites you to join rallying and committed artists.

  • Art Canette (Omen, Aper and Senk5)
  • Dance (La 2e Porte à Gauche),
  • dance and musical performance (Martin Messier and Caroline Laurin),
  • music (Forestare, LoGriyo, The National Parcs),

Les Escales Improbables 2009 – to moor for a moment in the port of one’s imagination…
Welcome one and all!
